see iceland in a local´s eyes + restaurant review

Hello everyone out there in blog world :)
My name is Andrea and I live in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland.
I work in tourism and that´s where the idea for this blog came up. I feel that information about restaurants, along with reviews  is not very accessible. The main goal with this blog is to give you, ideas for what is fun to do and good to eat in Iceland.
I will be posting my own - and my friends favourite places around Reykjavík, and I hope that will give you a sense of what the locals like to do.
You know what they say: When in Iceland, do as the locals do!

For the first restaurant review of the blog,  I took my father to lunch today at newly opened restaurant  Sjávargrillið. The first that I noticed is how friendly and sincere the staff was as we arrived at the restaurant and throughout our meal. As we were waiting for our food the waiter brought us a bread basket along with some  sea salt - noisette butter, that was very originally presented as it came in on top of a small piece of stone!
As an appetizer, I had a chicken salad , with warm, tender chicken, black olives and homemade croutons. Very very good, although the portion was rather big, so this could easily be a starter for two people to share, or stand alone as a meal. My father chose the cured salmon and shrimp  and was very pleased.
For a main course, we  went with the salted cod  and the grilled arctic char with a shitake mushroom cream, dill mayonnaise, potatoes and fresh mango cubes.
After this feast  we were both so full that we did not dare order dessert.
In my opinion this is a restaurant worth trying, the food is beautifully presented and tastes lovely, the waiting staff is warm and accomodating and the restaurant is very well located on Skólavörðustígur.
The only downside is that the restaurant is quite dark lit, which might bother some people. Other than that, the restaurant visit was pretty much perfect, and the decorations are very original and give a very warm feel to the place ( like the little bows that are sowed into the bench pillows).
Note that the restaurant has two seperate menus: one for lunch and the other one for the dinner service.

I´ll definitely go back to try some desert, or one of their beautiful cocktails!

until next time

- Andrea
